Parish Council Meeting Minutes ~ Our Lady of Mercy ~ August 2, 2010
“Love Christ…Live Christ”
Meeting opened with prayer by Fr Batt at 7:00 PM. Present members; Tom Birong, Debbie Lumley, Sandy Sprague, Sr. Rita Murphy, Pat Calvert(recording secretary), and Fr. Batt. Absent: Demetrius Carrothers & Marty Colaprete.
Minutes of the last meetings were reviewed. There will be no picnic Aug 14.
Fr Batt will be installed as our pastor on Sunday, August 15th at 4:00 PM by Bishop Conlon. A light reception will follow in our parish hall.
We are going to discontinue 7:30 AM Mass after Labor Day.
Parish pictorial directory on hold until spring. Plan to increase our membership and want all parishioners included.
Financial Report as published was reviewed.
Committee Reports ~ Building Committee. Tom is our representative from Council to the Building Committee. The question is “Do we share the sentiment of the parish?” Four presentations were shown to about 60 parishioners. While building a church we also need to build our church family. Newsletters were mailed to 32 inactive families as a start. Council members want to hear your thoughts.
New Business
Elections ~ The “Pastoral Council Constitution” guidelines recommends eight members serving for a three year term with one additional term max. We will open nominations beginning this weekend to all parishioners ages 16 and over. A total of eight names will be on the ballot which is planned for early fall. Debbie Lumley and Sandy Sprague will contact those nominated for their consent. Council is excited about possible youth participation.
Time & Talent Survey? When was it last done? Think perhaps as many as ten years ago. Ownership and committees are born out of such a survey. Committees such as Social, Educational (Sr. Rita), Outreach & Liturgical (Altar servers, etc.)
Other
Fr Batt would like to see an active Youth Group ~ these groups allow people to be with their peers and share their faith. Is there is a parishioner who could lead the Youth Group? It has been discussed among the Carroll County parishes as to whether one leader could be hired to lead them. Are the finances there? A shared expense among the parishes? Names are being sought.
Men’s’ Club ~ Catholic Women’s’ Club (Altar Society): We are hoping to re-establish these organizations.
We need to work on communication ~ both ways ~ from us to you and you to us.
The minutes from our Parish Council meetings will therefore be published and put with the bulletin.
Fr Batt says~”We will move step-by-step and I’ll be right beside you.”
Regular monthly meetings are planned for the first Monday of every month – but with Labor Day we will meet at 6:30PM on Wednesday, September 8th.
This is a draft until approved by Council.
